Honda Electrified Technologies Explained

Honda Plug-In Hybrid

Honda is working on its goal of having a 100 percent zero-emissions lineup in North America by 2040. The brand currently offers a number of eco-friendly vehicles throughout its lineup, so there truly is something for every driver in Miami and Coral Springs. In the guide below, we explore Honda electrified technologies, including Honda EV batteries and charging, more in-depth.

Electric vs. Hybrid vs. Fuel-Cell

What is the difference between electric vs. hybrid vs. fuel-cell vehicles? Is it better to opt for a Honda EV or hybrid? What’s the difference, and how will it affect your daily drives in Hollywood? We explore what sets them apart below.

Honda Electrified Vehicles

EVs reduce or eliminate your driving emissions as well as the need for gas, so regular trips to the local gas station are a thing of the past. You can charge your EV on the go at public charging stations or at home. With home charging, you can choose a simple 120V option or have a Level 2 charging station installed by an electrician.

Honda Hybrid Vehicles

What is a hybrid? It is a car that combines at least one electric motor with a gasoline engine. Hybrids are equipped with a regenerative braking system designed to recapture some of the energy that was lost while braking. The electricity comes from a high-voltage battery pack, and the gas engine assists in charging and maintaining the battery. Hybrid vehicles do not run on electricity alone. However, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle will offer a short electric-only range.

Honda Fuel-Cell Vehicles

Honda debuted the FCX Clarity in 2008, which is a fuel-cell vehicle that produced electricity through a process that combined oxygen and hydrogen. A new fuel-cell model is in the works. Honda recently announced that its next hydrogen-powered vehicle will be a plug-in version of the CR-V. Its arrival is expected in North America and Japan in 2024.

How do fuel-cell vehicles work? They are powered by compressed hydrogen gas that feeds into an onboard fuel cell stack. The gas does not burn, rather it’s transformed into electrical energy to power the car’s electric motors. Fuel-cell vehicles emit zero tailpipe emissions, and the only waste produced is water.

Honda EV Batteries and Charging

With Honda EV batteries and charging, powering up your vehicle is hassle-free.

  • Level 1 Charging: Level 1 charging uses a standard 120-volt, 3-prong outlet, making it the easiest option. The downside is that it is also the slowest. On average, you can expect about five miles of range per hour of charging.
  • Level 2 Charging: Level 2 charging can be found at some public charging stations, and if you like, you can have an electrician install a Level 2 charging station at your home. Choose Level 2 charging, and you can expect approximately 25 miles of range per hour of charging.
  • Level 3 Charging: DC Fast Charging is the most rapid charging option, but because of this, it is only available at select public charging stations. Most stations provide anywhere from 100 to more than 200 miles of range in just 30 minutes of charging.
