Honda Maintenance Minder System At a Glance
Many Honda models are equipped with a consumer-friendly Maintenance Minder System that calculates the life of the engine oil, transmission fluid, air and micron filters, coolant, spark plugs, timing belt (if equipped) and rear differential fluid. Therefore, a mileage-based scheduled maintenance is no longer required as the Maintenance Minder System’s computer calculates the life span of the various items in the vehicle. Honda introduced this unique system in 2007.
The computer monitors the life of each item based on the vehicle’s driving conditions and the same will be displayed in the vehicle information gauges. The system will display the faster exhaustion of oil when the vehicle is driven at low temperatures during short outings or on higher temperature and rpm. Thus, you need not have to keep on glancing over your car manual all the time.
The Maintenance Minder System calculates the oil’s lifespan depending on the operating conditions of the engine. It starts with 100% with fresh oil and gradually comes down to 0%. Based on the oil life percentage, the maintenance minder system displays three different messages when you turn the ignition switch to ON.
Codes and Sub-Codes of Maintenance Minder System
A wrench on the dash is illuminated when the oil percentage gets to 15% signaling the owner to get a service done soon.
A Code: Change just the engine oil.
B Code: Replace the engine oil and the oil filter along with rotation of tires, check both front and rear brakes,
the parking brake adjustment and also look into other items as listed in the Owner’s Manual.
The display of sub-codes depends on how many miles you have driven the vehicle.
Code 1 – Get the tires rotated.
Code 2 - Replace the air cleaner element. Also get the drive belt checked and replace the dust and
pollen filter.
Code 3 - Change the transmission fluid and transfer fluid (if equipped).
